to the
Transport Division
of the Senate Department
for Urban Development and the Environment!
In the city-state of Berlin this department is responsible for the tasks of both the state ministry and the local administration, and, given the two-level structure of the local government it also carries out the tasks of the central administration sharing responsibilities with the twelve boroughs.
The tasks range from the planning of the future transport to the best possible organisation of
today's transport by including all means of transport.
Regarding railways and buses the department functions as "contracting authority", i. e. it orders the transport services of the assigned companies.
The Transport Division is also responsible for the execution of administrative tasks in the subordinate authorities "Berlin Traffic Control", State Administration Authority (Div. III, motor vehicles) and Berlin-Brandenburg's Aviation Authority (in cooperation with Brandenburg).
The department itself currently is subdivided into five divisions.
