Archive: The Capital City of Berlin - DocumentationSpreebogen International Competition for the Implementation of Landscape Planning
Based on the Spreebogen Ideas Competition, this landscape planning competition should help to find a design for the open spaces in the Parliamentary and Government quarter. This competition covers the Spreebogenpark, the Forum, the Platz der Republik and the Ebertplatz. With over 160 submissions, this was also one of the largest competitions for landscape architecture since the second world war. Representative design concepts were sought here, which were appropriate to the function of the open spaces and, at the same time, fitting to the adjacent buildings (Reichstag, Federal Chancellery and Paul-Löbe-Haus). The functions of the different spaces were set out as follows: the Platz der Republik offers space for cultural and political events, the Spreebogenpark acts as urban recreation and activity area, whilst the Forum serves as a meeting place and bridge between the surrounding areas.
The first Prize for the Platz der Republik, the Forum and Ebertplatz went to Cornelia Müller and Jan Wehberg, Berlin; the first Prize for the Spreebogenpark went to Weber & Saurer, Solothurn (Switzerland).
