Map 05.07 Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (Edition 2004)

Explanations and Imprint of the Map
  1. The map has been compiled as a base of first-time description of the groundwater, which have to be worked out within the Water Framework Directive.
  2. As biotopes depending o groundwater, types of vegetation and biotopes are aquired from the maps Vegetation (05.02) and Valuable Areas of Flora and Fauna (05.03) of the Environmental Atlas, which can be directly addressed as humid areas. For other types, which can be according to specification depending on groundwater, an assessment of single areas was made. For details see the explanation text.
  3. It is assumed that old tree populations in Berlin are in contact to the groundwater till 4 m under surface and hence depending on groundwater. All forests as well as park areas and cemeteries with old tree populations are therefore described as groundwater-dependent in areas with a depth to groundwater of 0 to 4 m.
  4. Supplementing to the above-named databases the results of some updated biotope mappings were added to single areas.
  5. All lakes and ponds from the official water map, which are nonessential fed by discharges from rain water sewer systems or by bodies of flowing waters, are described as waters depending on groundwater. In place can be implied that the water distance in these lakes are priorly managed by the correspondent groundwater level. Additional lakes developed by gravel mining and also fed by groundwater are depicted.
