THE METROPOLIS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PROJECTS

For the first time in 2002, during the 7th congress in Seoul, outstanding projects of Metropolis member cities were awarded. In the future, this is to happen on a regular base in the course of the triennial congresses. The Award is to go to member cities responsible for exemplary projects relating to environment, education, health, housing, public transport and jobs creation. The Award is to help spread information on the projects.

In 2002, the following projects were awarded:

  • First Prize was awarded to the City of Istanbul for its project "Golden Horn Environment Protection"
  • La Havana received the Second Prize for "Integral Rehabilitation of Old Havana"
  • The Third Prize was received by Montreal for its "Multimedia City" project
