TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME

Every city is experienced and has expertise knowledge in solving problems in urban development. This potential is made available for other cities by means of the technical assistance scheme.

The following assistance is offered:

  • Counselling and provision of technical information
  • Support in seeking international financing as at the UN, the European Commission, the World Bank etc.
  • Provision of short expert missions

Since the Technical Assistance Scheme was established in 1993, among others, the following projects have been accomplished:

  • 1993/1994: Melbourne assisted Mexico with town planning techniques for the rapidly-growing areas of Mexico City
  • 1995/1997: Barcelona, Lisbon and Paris assisted Havana in the reorganisation of its drinking water supply
  • 1996/1997: Paris and Melbourne assisted Guangzhou in improving the transport system
  • 2000: Barcelona assisted Guadalajara in the development of a municipal solid waste program
